BUENOS AIRES (Agencies).- The Government of Argentina Media outlets such as El Clarin have noted that about 7,000 public contracts will not be renewed next year. It will also review more than a million social programs to detect irregularities, presidential spokesman Manuel Attorney said. The decree was issued yesterday.

Public contracts that expire on December 31, 2023 will not be renewed in 2024, the official explained, and the remaining ones will enter a 90-day review process.

At a press conference at the Casa Rosada, the spokesperson noted that the measure would affect all temporary employees of the central administration and employees of various public institutions in Argentina, and that only workers in government agencies and institutions would be excluded.

As for the social programs, the Argentine executive will launch an audit and, based on the calculations of judicial investigations, predicts that 160,000 beneficiaries may receive this assistance “irregularly”.

According to the spokesperson, the total value of these projects is 10,000 million Argentine pesos ($12.45 million). “The Argentinians should not be responsible for this money,” the attorney insisted.
