Nayaj Gámez (32) is an environmental engineer, makeup artist, model and Miss Curvy 2022. Five years ago she almost died as a result of a car accident and today she is one of the favorites to win Miss Peru 2024.

Nayaj, you are an environmental engineer, model, makeup artist and beauty queen, who do you identify with the most?

I really enjoyed them in every aspect. I don’t currently practice environmental engineering, but it has been a very important part of my life.

Because you quit?

I had a car accident that left me bedridden, where I also lost my twin, and prevented me from doing high-impact activities again, which is why I quit my job.

At what point did you decide to become a model?

After recovering from the accident, I returned to being a makeup artist. And one day I was invited to do makeup for plus size women in a photo shoot. Just that day a model was missing and they asked me if I wanted to participate and I went all ha, ha, ha. That’s how I started, and here we are.

You also won Miss Curvy 2022…

That’s right, I’m the third Miss Curvy of Peru.

Is it difficult to be a plus size model in the country?

Nowadays it is bearable, there are many opportunities and the industry has grown a lot. The hard part is that there are no haute couture brands for plus size.

Do you think the world of catwalks is more empathetic now that the world of catwalks is said to be frivolous, curvy models?

We need to understand that this is not about normalizing obesity, but about starting to take care of ourselves through self-love. The main thing is not to watch the weight too much, but to enjoy it. You don’t have to control what you eat, but learn to eat.

Have you ever been interested in losing weight?

Yes definitely. I have three eating disorders: bulimia, anorexia, and vigorexia. He practiced for more than ten hours. Managed it with professional help.

Tell us how you are preparing for Miss Peru 2024…

I have a somewhat strict nutrition plan, I eat more protein because I need to gain more muscle, and I’ve increased my training because I want to be more active on the catwalk. We also have classes in Public Speaking, English, Catwalk, Styling, Makeup, Emotional Coaching etc.

You are competing with 23 candidates and 11 rivals, what is your advantage of winning?

I think my message is very powerful. I want everyone to hear that there is no need to be attached to our body.

And a woman’s most beautiful curve is her smile…

Absolutely. We are all beautiful and regardless of size, we can conquer anything we want.

Your name means ‘winner’, do you consider yourself a winner?

Being Miss Peru 2024 is already a success for me. I was bedridden five years ago and here I am today. Unbelievable.

A message for women who have not yet accepted their bodies…

Look naked in the mirror and admire yourself. Say whatever you want about yourself. Make peace with your body, reconcile yourself. If you feel good on the inside it will reflect on the outside.
