Netflix’s classic mercenary is back, and the people behind his story, director Sam Hargrave and the Russo brothers from direction and production, wanted to keep the essence of the sequel almost intact.Rescue work” (“Extraction”, its title in English).

Released in April 2020, the action film tells the story of Tyler Rack (Chris Hemsworth), a highly trained agent who is often assigned to do jobs that “no one else can do”. Back then, a brilliant ex-combatant of the Iraq war had time to complete complex tasks in exchange for a large amount of money, without family pressure in between.

In the first installment, Tyler is tasked with finding and rescuing Ovi (Rudraksh Jaiswal), the son of a disgraced Indian billionaire (Ovi Mahajan/Bahaj Tripathi). While the latter spent his days in jail, an all-out war was going on in Bombay between Minor and a battalion of hitmen hired by Mahajan’s (father) enemy to kill Rak’s group.

Finding out that he’s not being paid to do his job (note the already implausible argument when it comes to millionaires and mercenaries), Tyler finds himself at a crossroads where the dealer leaves Ovie to fend for himself. Thus, even with the pressure of his comrades in the forces, the role played by Hemsworth prioritized the honesty of the younger man, with whom he was able to weave a special friendship.

As it progresses”Rescue work”We notice a lackluster attempt to approach the play. as? Separates Tyler from ‘Killing Machine’ as a flesh-and-blood man, unable to cope with the tragic death of his only son, separated from his wife. Along these lines, as has happened in dozens of ‘action hero’ movies, there is a sense of guilt that torments our protagonist. The latter, although approached in a more lean manner, is compatible with 90% bullet and blood plot oxidation.

Three years after the premiere, “Rescue Mission” gives us its sequel. It tries to connect the improvisation with the conclusion of the first part. Shot on an old bridge in Bombay, we see Tyler falling into a river. Amazingly – even though we thought he had run out of equipment – he is rescued and taken by helicopter to Dubai. There, with the best of care, all he had to do was wait until he woke up one day.

Knowing we’re facing a franchise that may have a lot more fabric to cut, it’s time to compare what we already have on hand. This time, the action does not take place in India, but in Georgia, a rugged and complex country located at the crossroads between Asia and Europe. We’ve gone from stylish villains who only order by phone to brothers David and Zurab Radiani. Both lead the Nagasi, a kind of bloodthirsty fanatic sect in which almost anyone seems willing to give their life for their leader.

It is precisely one of these powerful brothers, David (Dornik Biziava), who has kidnapped his wife and children in Takachiri Prison. Bad guy Radiani (Tinadin Dalakishvili) then decides to ask Mia (Olga Kurylenko), sister of Tyler Rack’s wife, for help. This affectionate bond and the urgency to restore the freedom of the villain and his children, Sandro (Andro Zabaridz) and Nina (Marta Kovziashvili), mobilizes our protagonist and takes him out of “retirement” for an operation, as “The Messenger” warns. Alcott (a sourly funny Idris Elba, crying out for more space in a potential third installment) is clearly serious.

Without going into too much detail about the reasons for his decision (“You told me to find out why I struggled to come back. Let’s find out”), Tyler gathers his team members. Actress Kolshifte Farahani has evolved from film to film in the role of Nik. From one story where she’s basically the strategist and director, in another she throws up her hands and fights with whoever’s in front of her. His brother Yas Khan (Adam Bessa), on the other hand, balances strategy with action. These brothers are clearly the perfect duo in “Rescue Mission 2” (which includes jokes on TikTok) and they go perfectly with a protagonist who has completely lost the fear of death.

In the first part of the series, Ovie is a teenager who acts as a ‘companion’ to Tyler, who is overwhelmed with guilt over leaving his youngest son in the terminal stages of cancer. Our hero never hides the truth: he went to war because he could not stand in front of his loved one without helping him. On the other hand, this sequel also has a minor who plays a transcendent role within the plot. Sandro initially seems to accept what his mother says, but he soon reveals his other side: he is called a nagaji and seems willing to do anything to achieve it.

Rescue mission 2″ An action movie and under those parameters the result is as positive as it was three years ago. The dance of collisions is particularly striking. For example, Tyler’s team fights with the bad guy inside the Tkachiri prison, or Tyler’s confrontation with Zurab (Dornik Kochrichiani) on top of a skyscraper. But it would be very unfair not to mention other details like photography. Because we have seen many fights in trains. As are the men shooting at helicopters firing endless bursts, but the effect in Hargrave’s film is almost flawless. Likewise, while camera movements were an important input in the first installment, the stakes are redoubled in this series, giving the viewer the feeling that there are no pauses.

It is clear that Chris Hemsworth is not one of the best representatives of the melodramatic genre in Hollywood. However, Tyler’s character shows a certain evolution in his attempts to appear weak in the face of a past that haunts him in various ways. Although this progress shouldn’t mask the many weaknesses of Netflix’s new big bet. From situations that happen too quickly to be explained (the mercenary’s almost miraculous early recovery or his unprecedented – and easy – trial in a prison in Georgia), the small amount of an actor like Andro Japaridze (Sandro) conveys, or the way he misses Mia’s appearance in the story. As all of this suggests, elements that need tweaking if we’re going to get a third part soon.
